Signals
Signals is WeMatter's reporting layer for turning structured data and natural-language evidence into focused insight, comparisons, and strategy.
Overview
Signals is the part of WeMatter that turns platform data into decision-ready reports. Rather than stopping at raw dashboards or static exports, it is built to help organisations make sense of what is happening across the business, understand why certain patterns may be emerging, and decide where leadership attention should go next.
What makes Signals valuable is not only the presence of data, but the way that data is shaped into something easier to use. A strong Signals report brings the numbers, the written evidence, and the reporting context together so the output feels coherent rather than fragmented.
What is happening
Surface the current picture with clear measures, comparisons, and patterns.
Why it may be happening
Use narrative evidence and context to explain what may sit behind the numbers.
What to do next
Help leaders move from observation into prioritisation and action.
Signals products
Signals contains reporting products with different time models. Engagement owns saved, moment-in-time snapshots. Scoring Analysis is a live analytical dashboard that recalculates from the selected period and URL-backed settings. Both move from raw information to a clearer strategic picture.
A Signals dashboard will usually combine structured measures such as scores, counts, or trends with richer context such as cohort comparisons, snapshots, and written feedback. The aim is to create reports that are readable for stakeholders who are not close to the source data, without losing the depth needed for serious decision-making.
In practice, that usually means a Signals dashboard is trying to hold together a few different layers at once:
- the measure itself
- the reporting boundary around it
- the comparison context
- the evidence that helps explain the movement
Saved and live reporting
Engagement snapshots preserve a reporting moment. Scoring Analysis is not a saved report: changing its period or settings recalculates the current view.
What Signals is trying to do well
Across the Signals space, WeMatter aims to keep reporting evidence-led, reproducible, and genuinely useful in real conversations. The goal is not simply to give users more charts. It is to make the underlying story easier to grasp, easier to challenge, and easier to act on.
That is why Signals places so much emphasis on clear reporting boundaries, explainable narrative insight, and careful handling of anecdotal evidence. Each dashboard can document its own methodology in the context of the evidence it uses.
That reporting boundary depends on more than dates and filters. It also depends on the group metadata attached to the underlying records. In practice, saved context such as region, department, and manager helps Signals interpret results against the right part of the organisation rather than only the participant's current live profile.
